China's first gas chromatograph with EPC technology came out

The first "China Chromatography Manufacturers and Users Dialogue," organized by the Instrument Information Network, took place successfully on September 23 at the Institute of Mechanical Science in Beijing. The event marked an important milestone for the Chinese chromatography community, and relevant updates will be shared soon. In 2005, Shanghai Precision Scientific Instrument Co., Ltd. developed the first domestically produced GC128 (B-type) automatic gas chromatograph equipped with an electronic program pressure flow control (EPC) system. This groundbreaking instrument was officially accepted by the expert group of the Shanghai Science and Technology Commission in August of the same year. According to Mr. Li Wei, Director of the Analytical Instrument Research Office at Shanghai Precision Scientific Instrument Co., Ltd., this project was initiated by the Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission and involved a joint effort between Fudan University and the company. After five years of dedicated work, they overcame numerous challenges and ultimately succeeded. The GC128 (B-type) incorporates several independent technological innovations, making it a high-end gas chromatograph with China's own intellectual property. It fills a critical gap in the domestic market and achieves technical specifications that are close to international standards. This advanced instrument is fully automated, from sample introduction to report generation, using microcomputer control for unmanned operation. It features an EPC system, a micro thermal conductivity cell, a low-noise, high-magnification amplification circuit, an embedded microcomputer, and multiple CPU systems. It also supports internet connectivity, enabling remote communication, diagnosis, and training. As is well known, with the growing automation of gas chromatographs, EPC technology has become a standard feature in many foreign-made instruments, offering more reliable support for optimizing and automating chromatographic conditions. For a long time, China had no such technology in this area. The development of the GC128 (B-type) signifies a major leap in the capabilities of Chinese gas chromatography instruments, marking their entry into the high-end market and challenging foreign manufacturers. Mr. Li Wei also shared that Fudan University and Shanghai Precision Scientific Instrument Co., Ltd. have established the “Shanghai Jingke-Fudan Analytical Instrument R&D Laboratory,” combining the strengths of university research and commercial design. Drawing from the best practices of foreign companies, the company has adopted a strategy that balances product and technology development. By integrating mature technologies, they can quickly bring new products to market that meet diverse customer needs. At the same time, they continue to invest in independent innovation, ensuring a strong foundation for future generations of instruments. Currently, the two institutions are targeting the next challenge in the field of organic mass spectrometry, which is currently dominated by imported equipment. They are working together on GC-TOF technology. Mr. Li Xiaoou from East and West Electronics also mentioned that his company is developing a quadrupole GC/MS system, aiming to break the monopoly of foreign manufacturers in the Chinese organic mass spectrometry market.
