Car crash at Kedzie and Thomas in Chicago

This account comes from Martin Nowak: --- Around 3 PM today (September 5, 2012), I heard the sound of the Chicago Fire Department’s emergency response vehicles heading somewhere. Out of curiosity, I followed them to see what was happening. When I got there, I saw a shocking scene: a driver had crashed into a street pole and then collided with another car. The force of the impact caused the above-ground power lines attached to the pole to fall to the ground. To my surprise, the driver fled the scene before the firefighters even arrived. There was no immediate information about whether the driver sustained any injuries, but their airbag had deployed. As soon as I finished taking photos, Truck 36 from the Chicago Fire Department pulled up, and Ambulance 3 stayed on-site. Interestingly, the Chicago Police Department hadn’t arrived yet. The accident occurred at the intersection of Kedzie Avenue and Thomas Street. Below are some images I took at the scene. These photos capture the aftermath of the crash and the emergency response efforts. [Image Caption: A close-up view of the damaged cars involved in the collision.
