The Chicago Tribune recently reported that a significant fire occurred in Maywood, displacing between 20 and 25 people when two three-story apartment buildings were engulfed in flames on Friday evening. The intense fire, which was categorized as a 3-11 alarm, took place on the 1000 block of 11th Avenue. Firefighters from a dozen neighboring communities were called in to assist as they worked tirelessly for nearly two hours to control the situation.
According to Maywood Fire Chief John Cadigan, the initial alarm was raised around 9:30 PM. By the time the last embers were extinguished well past midnight, investigators were still on site trying to determine the cause of the blaze. The exact origin of the fire remains under investigation, and no definitive conclusions have been reached yet.
I headed over to the scene shortly after the fire had been put out. I managed to capture several images from the area that offer a glimpse into the aftermath. These photos tell part of the story, showing the extent of the damage and the collective effort required to bring the fire under control.
