The cost remains high, the price rebounds slightly, and the calcium carbide market rises again.

After a prolonged decline in domestic calcium carbide prices in the early period, the market has recently shown signs of recovery, with prices rebounding slightly. The average mainstream ex-factory price has climbed from RMB 2,000 per ton to RMB 2,100 per ton. With rising energy and raw material costs, market prices are expected to continue increasing in the short term. In August, the domestic calcium carbide market saw a notable rebound. In Inner Mongolia, prices were first increased by 100 yuan per ton, reaching between 1,950 and 2,000 yuan per ton. Prices in the northwest region also began to rise, with factory prices reaching 2,000 to 2,050 yuan per ton. This upward trend triggered similar increases in Hebei, Henan, Hunan, and Hubei, where prices rose by 100 yuan per ton. Meanwhile, the northeast region remained relatively stable. Currently, the price increase has spread to eastern and southern China, indicating a broader market shift. The main drivers behind the recent price surge include sharp increases in energy costs such as crude oil, coal, and electricity. International crude oil prices remain at high levels and are showing further upward trends. Domestically, the coal market has been affected by frequent production accidents, leading to the shutdown of over 7,000 mines for safety inspections. Although coal prices have declined slightly, they remain at elevated levels. Additionally, power shortages have caused frequent blackouts, disrupting calcium carbide production. Rising logistics costs have further pushed up market prices. At present, the low inventory levels among calcium carbide manufacturers, combined with an average production capacity utilization rate of only 50% to 60%, are contributing to the continued price increase. The current mainstream price of calcium carbide in China ranges from RMB 2,100 to 2,500 per ton. In Inner Mongolia, it is approximately 2,100 yuan per ton; in the northwest, around 2,200 yuan per ton; in North China, about 2,350 yuan per ton; in the northeast, around 2,500 yuan per ton; and in Central China, roughly 2,550 yuan per ton. Prices in East and South China are currently around 2,600 yuan per ton. Although the domestic calcium carbide market improved in September, and manufacturers are operating in a more favorable environment, the supply-demand imbalance remains significant, and market pressures are still high.
