> Two girls who were playing in a deep excavation pit in their neighborhood in Tinley Park were rescued on Sunday afternoon and didn't suffer any serious injuries. The incident occurred when one of the girls touched the side of the mud wall, causing it to collapse and bury them. One girl, Sarah, was completely covered by the dirt, while the other, Nicole, had her head sticking out above the ground.
According to Nicole's father, Robert Salwierak, there was a small pocket of air around Sarah, allowing her to breathe and even speak with the rescue workers. He mentioned that the rescue team described it as an ideal situation for both girls to survive such an ordeal.
Rescue personnel managed to free the girls within half an hour using their hands, shovels, and poles, according to eyewitnesses. Both girls were taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox for evaluation following the incident, but Assistant Fire Chief Steve Klotz of the Tinley Park Fire Department confirmed that neither girl sustained any significant injuries.

This whole situation could have ended much worse, but thankfully, the outcome was positive thanks to quick thinking and efficient emergency response.
