Simrad launches A2004 autopilot controller

Recently, Simrad introduced the A2004 Autopilot Controller, a specialized autopilot controller designed to meet the needs of workboats, commercial fishing vessels and passenger vessels. The A2004 Autopilot Controller is a suitable SOLAS heading control system, but for precise and convenient use it does require an approved autopilot interface supported by Continuum software.

The autopilot information is displayed on a wide-angle and dense fog color display with visibility equal to zero and is responsive and easy to use with a precise rotary control knob. Dedicated buttons will facilitate instant access to steering mode, user built work mode, and automatic conversion mode.

It is reported that the new Simrad A2004 autopilot is built on the user interface and the keyboard layout of the Simrad AP70 and AP80 professional autopilot controllers and updated with the latest generation of Simrad radar, sonar and electronic chart display and information systems (ECDIS). The display is compatible. A large aluminum rotary control knob will facilitate quick but precise steering adjustment, while a dedicated button will provide instant access to the steering mode.

All built-in controllers are designed to be commercially placed with wet or gloved hands such as fishing boats and work boats. The A2004 autopilot also supports a wide range of Simrad autopilot remote controllers and steering levers.

To ensure visibility under all conditions, the A2004 autopilot's color LCD panel can optionally be bound to its protective glass cover - eliminating the possibility of internal condensation. An extra-wide 170-degree vision means that critical autopilot information will have clear visibility at a glance wherever the display can be seen. The autopilot can be set to individual low speed, high speed and working mode adjustments to achieve the desired performance. The user builds a working mode that will help the autopilot build a specific optimal response, such as a fully loaded ship.

The A2004 autopilot will help control a single propeller through the AD80 or SD80 autopilot selected by the interface module. The thruster can be set to automatically engage below a user-defined speed threshold and to build a normal mode and a working mode separately. The A2004 Autopilot will also support professional high power rudder feedback devices designed for reliable operation on commercial vessels. The Simrad A2004 autopilot is currently available.
