In the early darkness of winter, the sky over Kildeer was illuminated by flames following a major house fire. A multi-story home was completely destroyed, and the structure may be a total loss. Due to the size of the fire, multiple neighboring communities were called in for mutual aid support. Firefighters relied on dry hydrants, pulling water from retention ponds since no fire hydrants are available in the area.
Lake Zurich Fire Chief David Pilgrad explained that the intensity of the flames required firefighters to drench the exterior of a nearby home as a precaution. Fortunately, all residents escaped safely without needing medical attention. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
