Latest Update: Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) has successfully restored electricity to over 90% of customers impacted by Hurricane Milton. Additionally, FPL aims to restore power to all affected schools by the end of the day today, ensuring residents can resume normal life. Statement from FPL President and CEO Armando Pimentel: "We’ve achieved our goal of restoring power to more than 90% of our customers impacted by Hurricane Milton, but our work isn’t finished yet. We’re accelerating restoration times, and our crews will keep working around the clock until every single one of the remaining 166,000 customers gets their power back. Our focus remains on restoring electricity to all affected schools by the end of today to help Florida families recover. FPL is committed to doing this safely and efficiently."

Challenges Faced During Restoration: Hurricane Milton was a powerful storm with widespread impacts across Florida that crews are managing while working nonstop to restore power.

  • Statewide: Communities are dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Helene and lingering effects of earlier storms, amplifying Milton’s impact.
  • West Coast: Storm surge and flooding closed roads, making certain areas inaccessible to repair teams. Tornadoes and debris caused significant damage.
  • East Coast: Severe tornado activity devastated parts of Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast. The National Weather Service reported 38 tornado sightings, unusually strong for hurricanes, destroying homes and leaving tens of thousands without power.

What Customers Should Do After the Storm:

  • Customer safety is FPL’s top priority. Follow instructions from local authorities.
  • Be cautious while driving. Non-functioning traffic lights should be treated as four-way stops.
  • Use generators properly—never indoors or in garages.
  • Avoid downed power lines, flooding, and debris; assume lines are live.
  • In case of an emergency, dial 911.
  • Report downed power lines or sparking equipment to FPL at 1-800-4-OUTAGE (1-800-468-8243).
