A fatal fire is reported at 9400 Halsted Street, near Still and Box. The two-story brick building is fully involved, with one adult female confirmed as a victim. An adult male is still unaccounted for, and the situation remains critical.
The fire has been knocked down, but crews are re-entering the structure with handlines to conduct thorough searches and locate any hot spots. The roof is now in, indicating the fire is under control, but the damage is extensive.
It appears that an occupant was trapped inside and could not be rescued due to the intensity of the flames. The victim was non-ambulatory, making it impossible for emergency responders to extract them in time.
CFD crews will return to 9400 Halsted at 10 AM to distribute smoke alarms in the neighborhood. No alarms were detected when firefighters entered the building, raising concerns about fire safety in the area.
