It is reported that the Volvo Penta engine will be equipped with the Volvo Penta IPS engine for the newly built pilot vessel of the Virginia Pilotage Association. 
The 55-foot pilotship, designed by the C. Raymond Hunt Association and built by Gladding-Hearn Shipbuilding, will feature an IPS3-driven engine package with dual D13 900 horsepower to meet US Environmental Protection Agency Tier 3.
Since the Volvo Penta D13 engine combined with the IPS3 drive easily meets the five criteria for stability, reliability, support, navigation and efficiency for the new pilot vessel, it is a power solution.
Compared to conventional shaft-driven engines, the Volvo Penta IPS engine is the perfect solution for modern pilot boats, delivering up to 20% faster speed, 30% lower fuel consumption, 15% faster acceleration and 50% less noise and vibration. .
