The Darien-Woodridge Fire Protection District is a key player in MABAS Division 10, operating from three fire stations. With a long history, the department has been using E-ONE equipment for many years. Today, they are equipped with one E-ONE quint, three E-ONE engines, and two E-ONE ambulances. Over the past decade, the department has gradually updated its color scheme, moving from lime green with white roofs to a more traditional red. Two of their older units still retain the original paint job, offering a nostalgic look.
The district covers parts of Darien and Woodridge, along with some unincorporated areas of Downers Grove and portions of Westmont. The department operates with a mix of full-time and part-time firefighters, ensuring coverage throughout the year. In 2009 alone, they responded to over 2,450 emergency calls, highlighting their active role in the community.
Station 1 in Darien-Woodridge is not only the headquarters but also houses the Southwest United Fire Districts Fire Training Academy. This academy plays a vital role in training new firefighters and maintaining high standards of emergency response. The academy itself operates three vehicles, supporting both local and regional training efforts.
