The Darien-Woodridge Fire Protection District is a key member of MABAS Division 10, operating three fire stations serving the communities of Darien and Woodridge. The department has a long history with E-ONE equipment, having started with a single quint many years ago. Today, they maintain a fleet that includes one E-ONE quint, three E-ONE engines, and two E-ONE ambulances. Over time, the department has transitioned from its original lime green color scheme with white roofs to a more traditional red and white look. Only two vehicles still retain the original color, marking a subtle but meaningful shift in their identity.
The district covers parts of Darien and Woodridge, along with unincorporated areas of Downers Grove and portions of Westmont. The department operates with a mix of full-time and part-time firefighters, ensuring coverage for both routine calls and emergencies. In 2009 alone, they responded to over 2,450 incidents, showcasing their critical role in the region’s emergency services.
Station 1, located in Darien-Woodridge, is not only the headquarters of the fire department but also houses the Southwest United Fire Districts Fire Training Academy. This academy plays an essential role in training new firefighters and maintaining high standards of preparedness across the region. The station also operates three additional training rigs specifically for use by the academy.
