The Carol Stream Fire District, located in Dupage County (Division 12), operates from three stations, each equipped with a variety of emergency response units. The district maintains one engine company, one two-piece squad company, one tower ladder, and three ambulances, along with a battalion chief. Their fleet includes two E-ONE engines, an E-ONE tower ladder, an Alexis engine, and an Alexis heavy rescue. All ambulances are sourced from Life Line, built on various IHC chassis, ensuring reliable and modern medical support.
The headquarters station, situated at 35 N. Kuhn Road, is the central hub of operations. It features four drive-through bays, administrative offices, and a full training facility that includes a burn tower. This station also houses a battalion car, an ambulance, and a tower ladder quint. Additional vehicles include a spare ambulance, an OEM Mobile Command Unit, a spare engine, and two antique fire apparatus, along with various staff vehicles. The facility serves as both a working station and a training center for firefighters in the area.
A historic piece of the department’s legacy is the 1947 Ford Darley pumper, which remains on display as a reminder of the past. The fire department's website offers a detailed history, including the evolution of the Keeneyville Fire Protection District and the Carol Stream Company. For many years, their apparatus was painted black over yellow, but this changed in 1996 when the color scheme was updated to red.
At Station 3, located at 1045 Lies Road, the two-piece squad company operates as a unified unit. The first unit, Squad 235, is a 2006 Spartan Gladiator Classic/Alexis 1500/750 pumper. The second unit, Rescue 235, is a brand new 2010 Spartan Metro Star Alexis technical rescue unit. While Squad 235 carries the primary hydraulic rescue tools for auto extrications, Rescue 235 is equipped with supplemental equipment, an air cascade system, and extensive TRT (Technical Rescue Team) materials, making it a specialized unit for complex rescue operations.
Rescue 235 features a unique design, with a stubby, two-door Metro Star cab. Its sides are fully stocked with rescue gear, while the rear door functions like a trailer ramp, allowing access to large storage compartments filled with lumber and other supplies. A folding ladder at the back provides access to the top storage areas, making it a versatile and well-equipped vehicle for a wide range of emergencies.
