The application prospect of natural gas desulphurization technology in remotely dispersed wells is good

With the rapid development of the Sichuan gas field, an increasing number of remote, low-yield gas wells with high H2S content are expected to come into operation. This trend is driven by the growing demand for high-quality natural gas in Sichuan and Chongqing, especially in small towns where economic growth is accelerating. These remote gas wells often face challenges such as being far from main roads and pipelines, making traditional gas processing methods less viable. As a result, remote desulfurization technology has emerged as a practical and efficient solution for these scattered wells. This technology offers significant advantages, including high desulfurization efficiency (with H2S levels reduced to below 20 mg/m³), simple equipment design, low energy consumption, ease of operation, and the capability for unattended operation. In this project, a total of 42 desulfurization units were designed, providing a combined purification capacity of 149.45×10⁴ m³/day. These systems successfully addressed the sulfur removal needs of 41 gas wells under the Southwest Oil & Gas Field Branch. The success of this implementation highlights the strong market potential of remote desulfurization technology. Not only does it bring economic returns, but it also helps reduce environmental pollution caused by burning sulfur-rich gas. To further unlock the value of untapped, remote, and high-sulfur gas wells in the Sichuan-Yunnan region—particularly in areas like the Qiannan and Chongqing gas fields—it is essential to promote the widespread adoption of this technology. Key steps include raising awareness through effective communication, tailoring design solutions to the specific conditions of each well, and ensuring strong technical support for existing desulfurization systems. Continuous improvement in both technology and application will be crucial to maximizing the benefits of remote desulfurization and supporting sustainable energy development in the region.
