The application prospect of natural gas desulphurization technology in remotely dispersed wells is good

With the rapid expansion of the Sichuan gas field, an increasing number of remote, small-yield gas wells with high H2S content are expected to come into production. These wells are scattered across difficult-to-reach areas, far from major pipelines and transportation routes. At the same time, the growing economies of Sichuan and Chongqing, especially in smaller towns, are driving a rising demand for high-quality natural gas. This makes the development of remote desulfurization technology for dispersed wells increasingly important. Remote desulfurization technology is particularly effective in handling small-scale, isolated gas wells that are not connected to main gas networks. The primary goal of developing these wells is to meet local industrial and residential natural gas needs. Practical applications have shown that this technology offers high desulfurization efficiency—reducing H2S levels to below 20 mg/m³—and is characterized by simple equipment design, low energy consumption, ease of operation, and the possibility of unattended operation. In this project, 42 sets of desulfurization units were installed, providing a total purification capacity of 149.45×10⁴ m³/day. This system successfully addressed sulfur removal for 41 wells under the Southwest Oil & Gas Field Branch. The results demonstrate that remote desulfurization technology has strong market potential. Not only does it bring economic benefits, but it also helps reduce environmental pollution caused by burning sulfur-rich gas. To accelerate the utilization of untapped, remote, and high-sulfur gas wells, it is essential to further promote the application of natural gas desulfurization technology in the Sichuan-Yunnan region, especially in the Qiannan and Chongqing gas fields. Key steps include raising awareness through effective promotion, selecting suitable design schemes tailored to each mine's conditions, and ensuring quality technical support for existing desulfurization equipment. Continuous improvement and refinement of the technology during its implementation will be crucial for long-term success.
