The 3rd International Starch and Starch Derivatives Exhibition opens

On March 31, 2008, the third session of the Shanghai International Starch and Starch Derivatives Exhibition was officially launched in Shanghai. Organized by the China Starch Industry Association and the Shanghai Science and Technology Development and Exchange Center, with support from the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China, the event took place at the Shanghai Mart (99 Xingyi Road) and ran for three days until April 2. This exhibition is one of the most influential and professional events in Asia, known for its international focus, branding, and specialization. It has earned widespread recognition for its high level of professionalism and industry authority. Over 200 leading companies from around the world participated in the exhibition, including major players such as COFCO, U.S. Corn Products, Shandong Golden Corn, Zhucheng Xingmao, Novozymes, Westphalia, Mitsubishi Corporation, Novartis, Hanter Corporation, RIECKERMANN, TRISLOT, and many others. The products on display represented the latest technological advancements and trends in the starch industry. With an exhibition area exceeding 7,000 square meters, the event featured a wide range of products, including raw starch, modified starch, starch sugar, sugar alcohols, enzymes, processing equipment, and energy-saving technologies. The coverage spanned the entire starch industry supply chain, from upstream to downstream. According to Ms. Dong Yanfeng, Secretary General of the China Starch Industry Association, global starch production reaches nearly 50 million tons annually, with the U.S. being the largest producer at around 30 million tons. China ranks second globally, producing nearly 13.5 million tons in 2007. Notably, China’s corn starch production technology has reached international standards. This year’s exhibition saw a significant increase in potato starch producers, driven by the success of China’s anti-dumping case against imported potato starch and rising domestic prices. As a fundamental industry, starch plays a crucial role in food, pharmaceuticals, textiles, construction coatings, and feed sectors. Looking ahead, China plans to promote the use of non-food materials for fuel alcohol production. To foster collaboration between research institutions, universities, and starch companies, the exhibition included a "New Technology Transfer Service Area," offering a platform for showcasing and exchanging innovative projects. Additionally, the "2008 Shanghai International Biological Fermentation and Alcohol Technology Exhibition" was held to strengthen connections between upstream and downstream participants, creating opportunities for business and cooperation. Over 10 expert-led seminars and theme reports were organized, featuring insights from industry leaders and on-site consultations. The exhibition highlighted China’s achievements in the starch sector, providing companies with valuable insights into global and domestic trends. It served as a key platform for technical exchanges, trade negotiations, and industry collaboration, making it a must-attend event for manufacturers, suppliers, and end-users alike.
