A few days ago, the Shanxi Provincial Economic Commission issued a notice stating that various departments in the province have taken proactive measures to reduce the use of coking coal, smelt clean coal, and utilize chemical building materials, while simultaneously increasing the production and supply of electric coal. All efforts are being made to ensure a stable and sufficient supply of power coal, especially during the winter season when demand is high.
According to recent reports, coal shipments in January saw a year-on-year increase of 31%. The daily number of coal cars loaded rose from 500 to 900 units. Meanwhile, the shipment of coking coal decreased by 109 cars, smelting refined coal dropped by 384 cars, and chemical building materials used 71 fewer cars. In contrast, the transport of electric coal increased by 405 cars. Shanxi Coking Coal Group has been working tirelessly to boost coal deliveries. From January 1st to the 29th, the group transported a total of 1.38 million tons of coal to key power plants, an increase of 320,000 tons, or 31% compared to previous periods.
Before adjusting its product mix, the ratio of coking coal to thermal coal in Shanxi was 4:6, but it has now shifted to 6:4, with thermal coal output rising by 20%. Despite significant economic losses, the company has prioritized ensuring the steady supply of power coal. As a result, coal prices have remained stable, and there has been no noticeable price hike.
In the coal city of Ganzhou, the municipal government has established a leadership group focused on coal and electricity supply, coordinating with relevant departments and enterprises to guarantee coal supplies during the "two festivals" and the "two sessions" nationwide. The government is working closely with companies like Pingshuo Coal Industry Corporation to ensure both the quality and quantity of coal, giving priority to power plants facing electricity shortages.
Local chemical fertilizer and chemical companies, such as Wucheng Chemical Fertilizer Plant, Zhongan Chemical Industry, and Jinyuan Chemical Industry, have adopted limited production strategies to support the coal supply for power generation. These coordinated efforts reflect the region's commitment to maintaining energy stability amid growing demand.
