Facebook introduced a security check tool that allows users to alert their family and friends in an emergency. The Facebook blog reported late on Wednesday saying: "We want to provide a useful tool for people to use in emergencies, so we created security checks, an easy way to express your security."
Users in an emergency area will receive a greeting from the security check: "How are you?", the user can choose to click on "I am safe" and the status update will be sent to friends. If someone is in danger, Facebook will locate it through the user's smartphone while allowing the user to correct any location errors. Facebook said the tool will be distributed on Android, iOS, feature phones and desktops worldwide.
