Former Peotone 1980 55′ Seagrave/RPI Snorkel for sale

Found on eBay: – former Peotone FPD (X-Normal FD)

This is a 1980 Seagrave 55' Snorkel ladder truck, originally owned by the Peotone Fire Department in Illinois. The unit was fully refurbished back in 1995, including enclosed jump seats, fresh paint, a new interior, a 400-gallon booster tank, and a complete repaint of the aerial device. It remained in active service with the department until 2018, when I purchased it from the second owner. Since then, it has been well-maintained and is currently in excellent working condition.

The truck is powered by a V-8 Detroit diesel engine and an automatic transmission. In 2018, the aerial underwent a full inspection, which included a visual check, magnetic particle test, ultrasonic testing, load tests, and functional tests—all passed successfully. The 1000-GPM pump was also tested and found to be in good working order up to that point.

The unit has only 49,393 original miles and 2,427 original operating hours, making it a rare and well-preserved example of a classic Seagrave Snorkel. Whether you're looking for a reliable fire apparatus for a department or a collector’s piece, this truck is ready to go. It's a true time capsule of 1980s fire apparatus design and functionality.

3inch Tow Strap 9m

A recovery strap is designed to "recover" a vehicle from the ditch, mud, etc. Nylon recovery straps have loops on each end for ease of use. A Tow Strap should not be used to recover or "snatch" a vehicle that's stuck. Traditional vehicle tow straps are much less flexible and designed only to pull a load that freely moves. The strap's inability to stretch can't absorb energy, which increases the likelihood that it will break. The metal hooks on the ends can then come unhooked and launch through the air at high speeds, injuring bystanders or the vehicles. Using a tow strap with very little stretch is extremely unsafe.
