Coatings and Linings

Coatings and Linings

Protective coatings and linings play a critical role in ensuring the long-term performance of large-diameter piping systems, which are often exposed to harsh environments over many years. To prevent corrosion and mechanical damage, high-quality coating solutions are essential for maintaining the integrity and efficiency of these pipelines.

We offer customized coating and lining solutions tailored to meet specific customer requirements and industry standards. Our range of protective systems includes:

  • Polyethylene (PE) Coating
  • Polypropylene (PP) Coating
  • Fusion Bonded Epoxy (FBE)

In addition to standard options, we can also provide alternative coatings upon request. Before applying any coating or lining, our pipes can be subjected to high-pressure water blasting to ensure a clean and optimal surface for adhesion.

Epoxy linings not only protect against corrosion but also help reduce internal surface roughness, which is especially beneficial for gas pipelines where minimizing flow resistance improves overall transmission efficiency.

Polyethylene (PE) Coating

The PE coating process begins with drying the pipe and performing external shot blasting to SA 2.5 standards. The pipe is then induction heated to approximately 220°C. An electrostatically applied epoxy powder primer is applied at a thickness of 60–255 µm, followed by an adhesive foil layer of 125–400 µm. Finally, a PE foil is wrapped around the assembly. The pipe ends remain uncoated to allow for temporary corrosion protection if needed. For added protection during long-term storage, a bitumen coating can be applied to the transition area between the PE chamfer and the bare pipe end.

Polypropylene (PP) Coating

For applications involving service temperatures above 80°C, the indentation resistance of the coating becomes crucial. In such cases, we recommend a three-layer PP coating system, with the third layer made of polypropylene. The construction of this system is similar to the three-layer PE coating, except that it uses polypropylene instead. Again, the pipe ends are left uncoated for temporary corrosion protection, and a bituminous coating can be applied to the transition area between the PP chamfer and the bare pipe end.

Fusion Bonded Epoxy (FBE)

FBE is applied by electrostatically spraying epoxy powder onto a pipe surface that has been shot peened to SA 2.5 standards and heated to about 240°C. This results in a durable, corrosion-resistant coating ideal for a wide range of pipeline applications.

Epoxy Lining

API RP 5L2 epoxy resin lining is commonly used for gas pipelines to reduce internal surface roughness, thereby lowering flow resistance and enhancing the efficiency of gas transmission. This lining provides both corrosion protection and improved operational performance.
