Bengang Steel's products are moving toward high precision
In recent months, Benxi Steel has successfully manufactured Steel 25Cr3MoA in line with international standards, marking a significant advancement in the production of high-precision special steel. This achievement not only highlights the company’s technical capabilities but also underscores its growing role in producing high-value-added steel products. Looking ahead, the development of stainless steel, high-alloy tool steel, and steam turbine blade steel is expected to bring substantial benefits to the industry.
Bengang Steel Factory, a key supplier of critical materials for the national defense sector, has been a core producer of special steel since 1994. As a result, Steel 25Cr3MoA has become the sole product designated for production by a single company in the country.
To streamline operations, the plant merged its electroslag and forged steel facilities into a unified forging plant. However, this restructuring led to various challenges, including personnel adjustments, equipment upgrades, and environmental adaptations. Due to these issues, the production of 25Cr3MoA was suspended for over a year.
In response, the special steel mill decided to restart the production of high-value-added steel products by manufacturing engine steel for the Spey aircraft, following international quality standards. The factory’s leadership actively participated in the process, organizing multiple meetings with workshop managers and technical experts to address key challenges such as process optimization, production scheduling, on-site management, and team coordination.
The steel in question is ultra-pure, requiring more rigorous inclusion classification than similar domestic products. To ensure accuracy, the inspection area was expanded from 200 to 625 square millimeters, significantly improving the reliability of quality control. Based on this, the special steel mill implemented strict quality management measures, with technical staff conducting process reviews and employees adhering to standardized operating procedures. Additionally, practical "mini-lectures" were held during shift times to enhance knowledge sharing and ensure a smooth workflow between processes.
Through these efforts, the production of 25Cr3MoA used in the Spey Aerospace project has fully recovered, meeting all required quality standards.
The Quality Management Center assigned dedicated personnel to conduct extensive performance tests on this steel grade. One critical process, “anisodide nitride heat treatment,†took over 60 hours to complete. After 30 days of continuous effort, the special steel plant successfully delivered 40 tons of 25Cr3MoA in nine specifications to its customers, marking a major milestone in the company's recovery and development.
