Scientists publish phosphorus-based composite materials as a negative electrode material for potassium ion batteries

Potassium-ion batteries (KIBs) are a core energy storage device with a similar energy storage mechanism as lithium-ion batteries, and their low cost and abundant metal potassium reserves are of strategic importance for large-scale energy storage in the future. The development of high performance electrode materials is a key factor in improving the performance of KIBs. Phosphorus-based materials, including phosphorus simple substances and various transition metal phosphides, have high theoretical capacity and low redox potential, and are a kind of high-performance cathode materials for high-performance potassium ion batteries, which have attracted much attention in recent years. Based on this, this work focuses on the research progress of the structural properties, synthesis methods and potassium storage mechanism of phosphorus-based anode materials, and reveals the relationship between the structure and electrochemical properties of phosphorus-based anode materials. At the same time, the paper reviews other key factors affecting the electrochemical performance of potassium-ion batteries, such as electrolytes and binders. The system summarizes the current modification strategies for improving the performance of phosphorus-based anodes. Finally, the paper also summarizes and summarizes the challenges and opportunities in designing high performance phosphorus-based anode materials, and proposes some feasible solutions and future development directions.
