Application

This equipment is designed for conducting flammability tests on lithium batteries or battery packs. It involves drilling a 102 mm diameter hole in the testing platform and placing a wire mesh over it. The battery is then placed on the mesh, and an octagonal aluminum mesh is installed around it. A burner is ignited to heat the sample until the battery explodes or burns. The combustion process is timed accordingly.

Test Method

Each test cell or battery is placed on a screen that covers a 102 mm (4-inch) diameter hole in the center of the platform. The screen is made of steel wire mesh with 20 openings per inch and a wire diameter of 0.43 mm. The screen is mounted 38 mm above the burner. The sample is heated and remains on the screen until it explodes or ignites and burns out.
