Wheeling firefighters responded to a commercial laundry located at 45 W. Hintz around 7:00 PM after receiving a call about a fire in the building. The first engine arrived and reported a large industrial structure with an evacuation in progress, but no visible flames at first. Employees confirmed there was a fire inside, and upon entering the building, firefighters discovered a machine fire approximately 500 feet into the facility. Some smoke was also seen along the roof’s exhaust stack, which led to the fire being upgraded to a Code 4 — a working fire. Fortunately, the fire was brought under control by the initial responding units. To help clear the heavy smoke from the building, the Division 1 MVU, based in Wheeling, was dispatched to the scene.
